Maria Magdalena merupakan tokoh perempuan dalam Perjanjuan Baru yang sering menarik perhatian bagi para sarjana Perjanjian Baru. Selain memunculkan tafsiran yang kontroversial, tokoh perempuan ini memberikan inspirasi bagi para perempuan Kristen sepanjang abad. Namun, kebaradaan tokoh perempuan ini sering menimbulkan perdebatan baik dilingkungan teologi maupun non-teologi, khususnya sejarah. Penelitian yang kurang berhati-hati dapat menyebabkan penafsiran yang keliru dan berimbas pada pokok-pokok iman Kristen. Mengingat sensitifnya penasiran terhadap tokoh ini, perlu dilakukan penelitian yang cermat terhadap naskah Alkitab, khususnya tulisan-tulisan yang menyatat kehidupan dan pelayanannya. Melalui kajian hermeunetik, penelitian ini akan menjalankan fungsinya. Yaitu guna menemukan kehidupan dan pelayanan Maria Magdalena berdasarkan narasi Injil Sinoptik. Melalui penelitian ini, diharapkan orang Kristen tidak akan terguncang terkait beragam tafsiran yang memengaruhi iman mereka.
